To be able to move the camera in a professional way I decided to built a track based dolly. After researching a bit I came up with the following design.
The track uses 28mm metal pipes. The platform is 80 by 100cm (about 31″ by 43″) and is supported by 16 skate board wheels (hardness 72A) with ABEC7 bearings.
The dolly moves very smooth over the tracks and I’m very pleased with the resulting footage using this dolly.
The only thing left to do is find some clever and easy way to connect track pipes to be able to create a longer track.
